The Chicago Bears were recently linked to a possible trade for one of the Washington Commanders’ two available stud pass rushers, and the team has reportedly pulled off a deal for one of them on Tuesday morning.

Heading into NFL Week 9, the Chicago Bears owned a 2-6 record and were among the worst teams in our current NFL defense and NFL offense rankings. Yet, the organization seems to believe they are not far off from seriously competing for a playoff spot in 2023 and just need to make a few key changes and upgrades before the second half of the season.

A few hours before the 4 PM ET NFL trade deadline the team made one of those moves when they reportedly completed a trade for talented Washington Commanders defensive end Montez Sweat. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter was one of the first to report the deal and claimed the Bears will send the Commanders a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in return.

Chicago Bears were linked to a potential Chase Young trade over the weekend

Over the weekend, reports linked Chicago to a potential deal for Sweat’s teammate Chase Young. However, they instead landed the 27-year-old former first-round selection from the 2019 NFL Draft. Sweat is in the final year of his contract and the Bears are likely hoping that getting him on the team early could help their chances of retaining his services before he hits free agency next spring.

The Chicago Bears are dead last in the NFL this season with just 10 team sacks after eight games.

Following another frustrating shootout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles over the weekend, the Commanders fell to 3-5. Their latest defeat further pushed open the door to move Sweat and Young with both in the final years of their contract and likely pricing themselves out of return next season.
