Chicago Bears reportedly linked to blockbuster trade for star pass rusher

Despite some around the NFL believing the Chicago Bears would be sellers before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline, a new report suggests the team could be on the verge of a blockbuster trade for a stud pass rusher.

Heading into a tough Week 8 clash against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Bears are in desperate need of a win streak. After losing their first four to start the season, Chicago has won two of their last three and will again try to win back-to-back games for the first time this season on Sunday.

For many teams around the league, this weekend’s game will decide how they approach the rest of their 2023 campaign. Losses could lead to being sellers before Tuesday’s trade deadline, while a victory might embolden some organizations to swing big deals to improve their chances of reaching the playoffs this season.

Win or lose, the Bears seem like a team that would be hard-pressed to reach the postseason this year. However, the organization seems to believe a trade for one of the conference’s best pass rushers could be a move that takes them over the hump and makes them a more serious playoff contender.

On Sunday morning, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that “Per a league source, there are rumors in league circles linking the Bears to Commanders pass rusher Chase Young.”

  • Chase Young stats (2023): 14 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 9 QB hits, 5 sacks

Young is a free agent after this season, so the deal seems a bit odd, but as Florio added the organization will have a lot of cap space this offseason. It means they probably want to get Young inside their building to make it easier to sign him to a long-term deal in the spring.

The Chicago Bears are 31st in the NFL this season with just 10 team sacks after seven games.

Young earned Pro Bowl honors during his rookie season in 2020. However, an ACL tear limited him to just 12 games over the last two years. He is on track for a 10-sack season in 2023.
