After another disappointing end to their season, the Dallas Cowboys have a lot of work to do. They’ve already hired a new defensive coordinator after Dan Quinn got promoted as Washington’s head coach, but Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb may need new contracts too.
Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, and the Cowboys are widely expected to negotiate a new deal this offseason, but what about his best pass-catcher? Like Prescott, Lamb is also entering the final year of his contract, and one insider says the Cowboys receiver could land one of the biggest contracts in the NFL.
CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension will make him one of NFL’s highest-paid WRs
CeeDee Lamb’s contract extension negotiations come at the perfect time, at least for him. Not necessarily for the Dallas Cowboys, who are over the 2024 spending limit right now.
Lamb recorded new season-highs in receptions (135), receiving yards (1,749), and touchdowns (12). His 135 catches led the entire NFL. Still just 24, now Lamb’s set to sign his first contract extension since becoming the 17th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports that the Cowboys and Lamb are discussing an extension, and he even suggests he could come close to landing a contract that comes close to rivaling what’s expected to be a record-setting salary for receivers once Justin Jefferson signs.
“If and when Jefferson signs his extension, it will bring some clarity to the top of the wide receiver market and affect other deals around the league. Dallas and CeeDee Lamb continue to talk about an extension, and if there’s a receiver out there who could land in Jefferson’s contractual neighborhood, Lamb is probably that guy. The Cowboys need cap space and could save more than $13 million if they extend Lamb. But there are so many receivers looking for deals and so many available in the draft (this year and seemingly every year now) that at some point you wonder if the market will cool again.”

Spotrac suggests Lamb’s contract value is in the range of $28.8 million per year. If he signed a four-year video, that would equate to a $115 million extension for one of the game’s greatest receivers, yet that still won’t top the number Jefferson receives.
