Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer has been a busy man in NFL free agency, doing his best to build up talent around an unnamed rookie quarterback.
After dealing away Pro Bowl receiver D.J. Moore in a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears for the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Carolina has added another pass catcher.
Multiple media reports indicate that Carolina has signed fellow receiver DJ Chark to a one-year contract.
Chark, 26, has been linked to the Carolina Panthers for some time now. He ultimately joins Pro Bowl receiver Adam Thielen in signing with Carolina. The team also added another Pro Bowler in that of running back Miles Sanders earlier in NFL free agency.
A second-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2018, Chark jumped on to the scene as a sophomore the following season en route to earning Pro Bowl honors.
DJ Chark stats (2019): 73 receptions, 1,008 yards, 8 TD
Unfortunately, injuries and inconsistency has caught up to him since. This past season with the Detroit Lions saw Chark record just 30 receptions for 502 yards while catching less than 60% of his targets from Jared Goff.
Despite this, the LSU product still hasn’t hit his prime and seems to be a logical fit in Carolina.
As noted above, these Carolina Panthers boast the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. They have been linked to all four of the top signal callers with C.J. Stroud from Ohio State and Alabama’s Bryce Young as the two likeliest options.
