Braves announced SS Dansby Swanson has torn ligament in hand

This is not the way the NL East champion Atlanta Braves wanted to close out what has been a shocking regular season.

The team announced on Wednesday that star young shortstop Dansby Swanson has a partially torn ligament in his left hand and will undergo treatment.

This obviously puts Swanson’s availability for the playoffs in question. Swanson left Tuesday’s game against the Mets with discomfort in the hand. While X-rays showed no structural damage, the MRI told us a different story.

Swanson, 24, is hitting .238 with 14 homers and 59 RBI on the season. A former top prospect, this was his best performance in the bigs. If Swanson is unable to go in the NLDS, utilityman Charlie Culberson might get the call to start at short.
