Could Bill Belichick see his 24-year run end as the New England Patriots’ head coach following Sunday’s season finale against the New York Jets?

We’ve continued to hear rumors that Belichick will be out of a job after yet another non-playoff season for the six-time Super Bowl champion head coach.

New England heads into Week 18 with a 4-12 record. It’s going to lead to the team’s worst showing since all the way back in 1992.

Whether the 71-year-old Belichick leaves New England for another job remains to be seen. But he’s going to meet with Patriots owner Robert Kraft at some point next week.

According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, it is going to be to discuss Belichick’s future with the Patriots.

There has been a major disconnect between Belichick and Kraft ever since franchise legend Tom Brady departed the organization following the 2019 season. He’s posted a combined 29-37 record without Brady in the mix since.

New England’s ugly 10-6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany back in Week 10 reportedly angered Kraft. He wants the Patriots to be a brand. An embarrassing showing of that ilk on an international stage did not do Belichick any favors.

This report seems to indicate that neither Kraft nor Belichick have made a decision on a path ahead. It also means that no decision will be made on what has been dubbed as “Black Monday,” the day after the NFL regular season schedule wraps up.

It still seems like the two sides are headed for a divorce after nearly a quarter-century together. Reports throughout the season pointed to it being a foregone conclusion that Belichick will be coaching in another NFL city next season.

The Washington Commanders have come up as a top potential landing spot in a trade. They will likely move on from head coach Ron Rivera immediately after their season ends against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

The Las Vegas Raiders are another potential landing spot for the future Hall of Fame head coach. Owner Mark Davis is looking to go big-game hunting with Belichick and Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh seen as two likely targets.

Either way, don’t expect something to come to fruition on this end any time soon. Also, don’t expect Belichick to tip his hand.

“It’s a lot of hypotheticals, a lot of ‘in the past’ and ‘in the future.’ I’m really focused on what’s going on right now,” Belichick said earlier in the week.
