Bill Belichick will not be coaching in the National Football League next season for the first time since 1974. The future Hall of Famer isn’t ready to call it quits, however, and there is already buzz about where Belichick could coach in 2025.
Belichick, who turns 72 in April, received very little interest in the NFL coaching carousel this offseason. After being dismissed by the New England Patriots, the seven-time Super Bowl champion met with the Atlanta Falcons and had brief discussions with Washington Commanders officials.

However, the greatest coach in NFL history was passed up for every head-coaching vacancy that was available. While there are a variety of reasons for it – from his preferences for specific circumstances to some concerns with him – the end result is the same.
However, unlike Nick Saban, this isn’t viewed as a retirement by anyone around football. Belichick still wants to coach and while the opportunities weren’t there this offseason, it appears they will be in 2025.
ESPN’s NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler named the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears as three ‘teams to watch’ for Belichick in the 2025 hiring cycle.
One reason Philadelphia, Dallas and Chicago are all mentioned is that Belichick is a history buff. Joining one of the most storied organizations in NFL history as he pursues the all-time coaching wins record, would be an honor for Belichick.

The Eagles, Cowboys and Bears also each have head coaches on the hot seat. Mike McCarthy is in a contract year with Dallas and Jerry Jones has made it clear he won’t commit to him beyond 2024. Meanwhile, Nick Sirianni was forced to fire both his coordinators to remain the Eagles’ head coach.
As for Chicago, Bears’ head coach Matt Eberflus barely survived making it through this year’s firing cycle. If the team disappoints next season with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, Eberflus will be gone and that becomes one of the most lucrative head-coaching vacancies in the NFL.
