Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith put an end to that in rather short form during Josh McCown’s introductory press conference. Common logic seemed to suggest that McCown was brought into compete with Mike Glennon for the starting job. Not so fast, my friends…Â
Bucs’ Lovie Smith, asked if Josh McCown is his quarterback: “Yes, he is.”

It doesn’t take an expert to draw a final conclusion here. Smith brought in his guy, someone he coached for two seasons in Chicago, to be his starting quarterback in Tampa. McCown can earn a total of $15 million over the duration of his two-year contract based on incentives. It will surely help his case if he’s actually starting.
On a somewhat unrelated note, what doesn’t Smith see in Glennon, who surprised last season? I was in no way high on him coming out of North Carolina State, but he was impressive as a rookie.
McCown taking over for Glennon who replaced Russell Wilson at North Carolina State, must mean that McCown is better than Wilson. Right? Okay, I thought so. That’s some awesome logic right there.
