If his father has any clout in the decision-making process for Anthony Davis, the New Orleans Pelicans won’t be trading him to the Boston Celtics.
Anthony Davis Sr. spoke with ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne on Friday and made it clear he doesn’t want his son playing for an organization that treated Isaiah Thomas the way it did.
“I would never want my son to play for Boston after what they done to Isaiah Thomas,” Anthony Davis Sr. told ESPN on Friday, referencing the former Celtics star point guard who was traded for Kyrie Irving amid his recovery from a hip injury. “No loyalty. Guy gives his heart and soul and they traded him.”
Whew.
Davis Sr. went on to say that he doesn’t speak for his son.
“This is just my opinion, not Anthony’s,” he said. “I’ve just seen things over the years with Boston, and there’s no loyalty.”
For what it’s worth, while Boston has been mentioned as a potential trade partner for New Orleans for a while, the Celtics are not one of the two top teams currently being bandied about as favorites to land the star.
The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly been working on deals with the Pelicans to land Davis, who also is reportedly okay with being moved to New York to play for the Knicks.
In the meantime, Davis himself told reporters on Friday that he fully intends to play for New Orleans when he’s healthy — assuming he’s still there when that happens.
