Aaron Rodgers’ return to Green Bay Packers still an option according to team’s GM

The Green Bay Packers are finally ready to move on from Aaron Rodgers after 18 seasons. Or are they?

We know the New York Jets are all-in on having the four-time NFL MVP as their starting quarterback in 2023, but we’re approaching April, and a trade has yet to be completed. It’s been three weeks since Rodgers realized New York was where he wanted to continue his football journey in 2023, yet discussions seem to have stalled.

According to Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst, there’s even still a possibility the 39-year-old QB returns to Green Bay for a 19th season in 2023. Seriously.

When asked if there was any chance Rodgers could play for the Packers again, Gutekunst suggested it’s unlikely but noted: “all options are on the table“.

Gutekunst went on to insist that he fully anticipates Jordan Love being the team’s starter in 2023 while reminding everyone he simply wants fair value for Green Bay’s longtime leader. The Packers GM also added the main motivation behind the potential Rodgers trade is due to the QB’s desire to play elsewhere.

So what’s the holdup?

The Jets don’t seem willing to part with their first-round pick, meanwhile, the Packers have suggested they’re not necessarily demanding a selection in the opening round of the draft. Yet, the Jets have two second-round selections they can work with, and plenty of future picks available to trade as well.

In the end, we’re in about the exact same position we were in when the offseason started, wondering whether Rodgers will stay or go. Chances are, he’s a goner.
