Patrick Mahomes has won an NFL MVP Award and led the Kansas City City to Super Bowl LIV. Now, the Chiefs are planning to reward Mahomes with a record-breaking contract that will change the entire market.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mahomes is expected to receive a contract extension that will shatter the quarterback market and easily surpass Russell Wilson’s record salary. Specifically, Mahomes could land an extension worth $40 million per season.
Wilson currently leads the NFL in average annual salary ($35 million) and his contract carries the league’s second-highest total value ($140 million). He won’t be holding that spot for much longer with a contract coming for Kansas City’s star quarterback in the coming months.
Coming off an MVP season in 2018, Mahomes overcame injuries early this season to lead the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl in 50. If he can win Super Bowl LIV and bring a championship to Kansas City, fans will be more than happy if the organization lets Mahomes set his own contract terms.
