The Tulane Green Wave came into Thursday’s primetime matchup preparing to stop Houston Cougars quarterback D’Eriq King as a runner. So on the first play of the game, King beat them with his arm.
King faked a keeper by rolling to his right and drew in most of Tulane’s defense towards him. It allowed wide receiver Marquez Stevenson to break open down the sideline and King hit him then watched as his go-to target took it the distance.
This is exactly what makes King so dangerous. The moment teams commit to making sure he doesn’t beat them with his legs, the Cougars use his movement as a decoy and allow him to unleash his arm.
While it’s been a rough start to the season for Houston, a road win against Tulane led by King’s dual-threat excellence could help turn its season around.
