For the second time this month, the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics have worked out a trade.
Fresh off acquiring veteran starter Homer Bailey from Kansas City, the A’s have landed left-handed relief pitcher Jake Diekman.
It’s not a blockbuster by any stretch of the imagination, but this adds another valuable reliever to Oakland’s staff for the stretch run.
Diekman, 32, has pitched to a less-than-stellar 4.75 ERA and 1.34 WHIP on the season. Though, he still boasts tremendous stuff. The veteran has struck out 63 batters in 41.2 innings on the season.
He joins a solid A’s bullpen that includes All-Star closers Blake Treinen and Liam Hendriks.
This might not be the end of moves from Oakland ahead of the July 31 trade deadline. Billy Beane has noted that the team wil be active. We have one idea in mind.
