Sean McVay: Jared Goff ‘vital’ to Rams’ success; extension ‘will get done’

There has been a narrative circulating around NFL circles since the Super Bowl that the Los Angeles Rams may not be committed to quarterback Jared Goff.

On Thursday, speaking with Michael Silver of NFL.com, head coach Sean McVay did everything he could to squash that notion.

That’s about as much support as any coach can throw behind a player.

It’s worth pointing out that the Rams have not helped matters by making it clear an extension with Goff isn’t on their front burner. However, there has never been any strong indication the organization isn’t committed to him — unless you count signing Blake Bortles this offseason.

Goff deserves more respect that he has gotten in the media, to be sure. He’s made strong progressions every year since his miserable rookie campaign, and while he struggled during the postseason — especially in the Super Bowl — it would be foolish to think that positive progression will not continue.

Especially when you consider just how much McVay has done to help Goff grow since the start of the 2017 season.
