The New York Giants shocked many when they selected Daniel Jones with the sixth overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft. The move signified the team believes Jones is good enough to eventually replace Eli Manning — even if that bucks the general consensus.
One person who seems to agree with the Giants is none other than Eli’s father, Archie Manning.
Speaking with TMZ Sports, Manning gushed over Jones and endorsed him as the heir apparent to his son, saying, “They drafted a really good young man. A really good young player.”
Many Giants fans aren’t as convinced Jones was a good choice. “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin, in fact, went to great lengths to rip the team for taking Jones at No. 6.
For what it’s worth, the rookie is getting some solid reviews from beat writers during the team’s mandatory minicamp this week. Additionally, some in the national media believe the Giants would be better off going to the rookie right off the bat.
Second-year running back Saquon Barkley recently endorsed Jones as well, and the Giants have gone to great lengths promoting him as their future.
Consider us skeptics. We’re more inclined to believe taking Jones sixth overall was one of the worst moves of the NFL offseason.
