The New York Jets announced on Wednesday that rookie quarterback Sam Darnold is not practicing due to a foot injury he suffered in last week’s loss to the Miami Dolphins.
This is notable in that Darnold was also seen wearing a walking boot on his right foot during practice on Tuesday.
#Jets announce that Sam Darnold has a boot on his right foot and is in street clothes at practice today.
Obviously not good news.

Darnold’s injury comes completely out of left field. He didn’t seem to be favoring his foot during New York’s Week 9 loss to the Dolphins, a game that saw Darnold throw a career-high four interceptions.
Given that he’s in street clothes for a mid-week practice, it’s hard to imagine Darnold being able to go this coming Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. If he’s forced to miss the game, veteran Josh McCown would get the start.
The No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft, Darnold has thrown 11 touchdowns compared to a league-high 14 interceptions on the season. It’s not yet known whether said foot injury impacted him during last week’s four-interception performance.
