It seemed inevitable. At 0-6 on the season and having not been competitive, Tyronn Lue’s future with the Cleveland Cavaliers seemed tenuous, at best. That came to a culmination Sunday, as the Cavaliers fired the head coach that led them to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances in the franchise’s first ever title.
We’re not too sure what the brass in Cleveland expected from this team after it lost LeBron James in free agency. Expectations couldn’t have been too high in the first place.
And now, it seems that Cavaliers players are not happy about the early-season firing.
#ThankYou from 3 straight finals an a chip to this! 🤦🏾♂️ Always love! @ Ohio https://t.co/pZKUW1bTBq

While others have yet to speak out, The Athletic’s Joe Vardon is reporting that multiple Cavaliers players are “pissed” over the firing.
The NBA is all about optics. Lue was seen more as a product of LeBron James during his three-plus years as head coach.
Whether that’s fair or not remains to be seen. But the early part of the 2018-19 schedule didn’t do him any favors. Not only is Cleveland winless on the season, it’s being outscored by nearly 13 points per game. That will get anyone fired.
