In an effort to bolster their bullpen, the Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired relief pitcher Ryan Madson from the Washington Nationals.

The 38-year-old reliever has struggled this season with Washington, but has a track record of success as a set-up man. In 2018, Madson has recorded a 5.28 ERA and 1.42 WHIP across 44.1 innings, but he has a 3.46 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in his career.

Now in Los Angeles, Madson will likely serve as a bridge to closer Kenley Jansen. The Dodgers previously moved Kenta Maeda to the bullpen to bolster their options in late innings and this move addresses an area of concern for the front office.

Washington will save $1.2 million in the deal and receive a prospect in return, though the name of the prospect isn’t known at this time.
