The New York Giants and Odell Beckham Jr. are reportedly getting close to a contract that would make him the highest-paid receiver in the NFL.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Monday that “Over the past several days, Odell Beckham Jr.’s agent Zeke Sandhu and the Giants engaged in good-faith negotiations on a deal that would make him the highest-paid WR in the NFL, sources say. They aren’t there yet, but the sides are encouraged a deal could be done before the season.”
NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo added a bit more context to this report as well, noting this report “indicates they’re already above Antonio Brown’s $17 million per year” contract and that a deal around $18 million per year “seems reasonable.”
Obviously, this is very good news, especially in light of other, less favorable reports that indicate the Giants haven’t been willing to pay Beckham in this manner.
Beckham Jr. is clearly one of the NFL’s top playmakers. He recently ranked very high in our Top 100 NFL players for 2018 list, for good reason. In just 47 career games, he’s caught 313 passes for 4,424 yards and 38 touchdowns. With that in mind, he deserves to be paid like a top player at his position.
