Joe Flacco: Dez Bryant could have Anquan Boldin-type impact for Ravens

Of all the teams in the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens are said to be the most interested in adding receiver Dez Bryant (per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media), recently released by the Dallas Cowboys. On Tuesday, Joe Flacco was asked about the possibility of having Bryant as a teammate. Safe to say, he’s a fan of that idea.

Flacco said Bryant could have a similar impact to Baltimore’s offense as Anquan Boldin had some years ago when he came over from Arizona in 2010.

Really, this is an apt and reasonable comparison. Bryant is no longer a big-play receiver like he was from 2012-14, when he was arguably the best receiver in the NFL. Nowadays, he’s more of a possession receiver who’s great in the red zone and can use his big body to out-muscle opposing defensive backs.

The Ravens added John Brown in free agency, along with Michael Crabtree. So they have a nice mix of speed versus possession right there, with Brown being the speed in this mix. Adding Bryant would certainly give opposing defenses something to think about.

It remains to be seen just how much more juice Bryant has left in him. His production has taken a nose dive since 2015, when injuries started to become a major factor. But if he’s going to make an impact, Baltimore’s not a bad place to get it done.
