MRI confirms MCL sprain for Russell Wilson

Russell Wilson

Pete Carroll spread some good news to Seattle Seahawks fans everywhere Monday when he confirmed that an MRI showed an MCL sprain for Russell Wilson.

This is the best possible news for Wilson and the Seahawks. As suspected, the quarterback avoided ligament tears when his knee twisted awkwardly on a tough hit on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

Wilson shouldn’t miss much time, if any at all.

Of course, the big concern going forward is that Wilson’s pass protection this year has been abominable. Seattle’s offensive line has been a sieve, and Wilson continues to take brutal hit this year after sustaining 46 sacks last year.

He suffered an ankle injury in Week 1 when Ndamukong Suh accidentally stepped on it and is now dealing with a sprained knee. Mobility has been a signature trait during Wilson’s NFL career, and that’s somewhat been taken away from him already this year with the two lower-body injuries.

The Seahawks must figure out a way to protect Wilson. If that doesn’t happen, then this franchise will likely miss the playoffs for the first time in five years.
