Victor Cruz groin ‘still noticeably bothering him’

Victor Cruz simply cannot catch a break.

After looking sharp in camp following his year-and-a-half absence from the game, he suffered a groin injury that kept him out of the first preseason contest of 2016 for the New York Giants.

Heading into Week 2, head coach Ben McAdoo says Cruz’s groin is “still noticeably bothering him,” per Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. The talented receiver will be re-evaluated in due course.

Once considered to be one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL, Cruz hasn’t played a single snap — preseason or otherwise — since tearing his patellar tendon back in October of 2014.

He was feeling good about things heading into training camp last year, but a calf injury that eventually required surgery put him back on the IR. He was optimistic about getting back into the swing of things before this year’s camp broke as well.

Then he suffered a groin injury last week.

If he could ever get back onto the field, it would be fascinating to see him work alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and rookie Sterling Shepard, who has been wowing this summer (more on that here).

We’re pulling for him, but at this point it’s not something we’re holding our breath about.
