Baltimore Ravens’ Zay Flowers burns Washington Commanders for first NFL TD

We focused on Baltimore Ravens rookie first-round pick Zay Flowers as someone to watch heading into Monday night’s game against the Washington Commanders.

A product of Boston College, Flowers had been showing out throughout the Ravens’ entire offseason program. It took the Commanders roughly two minutes Monday night to learn first-hand just how awesome Flowers can be after the catch.

Veteran Josh Johnson started the start for Baltimore against a majority of Commanders backup defenders. He proceeded to lead the Ravens down the field on a 75-yard drive, culminating in this brilliant 26-yard catch-and-run to Flowers for a game-opening touchdown.

Flowers made about five different Commanders defenders miss en route to scoring his first ever NFL touchdown. It’s something we saw on a consistent basis during his amateur career with the Eagles.

Zay Flowers stats (college): 200 receptions, 3,056 yards, 31 TD

As you can see, Flowers was ultra productive during his college career with Boston College. Baltimore selected him No. 22 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft to provide more weapons for quarterback Lamar Jackson. As noted above, he had opened eyes during the offseason program and training camp.

For Jackson, this year represents his best supporting cast at wide receiver since the former NFL MVP joined the league back in 2018. In addition to Flowers, Baltimore signed Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr. and returns former first-round pick Rashod Bateman from injury.
