With under 20 laps to go in the Daytona 500, the first inevitable big one happened when Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Joey Logano collided, causing the first big wreck on Sunday night. Any hopes of that being the last crash evaporated with 5 to go in a multi-car wreck that sent Ryan Preece airborne.

Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin were battling for the lead with 5 laps to go in the Daytona 500. Bell initially regained control after an initial push from Cole Custer. Moments later, however, Bell’s car got loose and careened into the wall, sliding to the back and taking out multiple others including Preece.

Preece’s car t seemingly clung to the top of the No. 43 car of Erik Jones, before rolling over and sliding against the track and then crashing into the wall. The No. 60 car then spun out violently before coming to a stop near the grass.

Fortunately, there were immediate signs that Preece was relatively safe after he took down the window netting. After being attended to by a medical team, Preece was taken to the infield care center. Just minutes after the crash, NASCAR announced that he was evaluated and released by the medical team.

Bell was also taken to the infield care center and released along with Preece.
