On Sunday, super prospect Victor Wembanyama showed in the San Antonio Spurs’ latest NBA Summer League game the type of dominance that made him the top overall pick in June’s draft.
There is an absurd amount of hype and pressure around French basketball phenom Victor Wembanyama. It isn’t due to the fact that he was the top overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, but because he has been the most talked about basketball prospect since Lebron James was a high school star in Ohio at the start of this century.

There was a lot of attention on his NBA Summer League debut last week, but unfortunately, he had a rough showing in his introduction to many fans. The 7-foot-4 big man shot 2-13 from the field and only hit on one of his six three-point shots in the Spurs’ win last week. Yet, despite his poor shooting night, he was still a +4 during his 27 minutes on the floor since he also pulled down eight rebounds and tallied five blocks.
Victor Wembanyama shows out in second San Antonio Spurs summer league game
Well, in his follow-up on Friday night, he delivered the all-around dominance that NBA fans had heard about in the team’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Yesterday, he dropped an impressive 27 points, pulled in 12 rebounds, and posted three more blocks in his second appearance in NBA Summer League. Yet, Victor Wembanyama was not happy with his performance nonetheless.
While he dominated and looked impressive on Sunday, the San Antonio Spurs could not overcome a double-digit deficit and fell to the Trail Blazers 85-80. “I wish we could have won the game,” Wembanyama said. “I think I could have done more to help my team win the game. We got to keep learning. We haven’t been playing our best for like three quarters.”
