NFL training camp is underway with teams and players around the league preparing for the 2025 season. As practices are going on, there are still plenty of NFL rumors showcasing some of the contract drama and even a little trade buzz involving prominent players.

Dallas Cowboys discussing DaRon Bland contract extension
A lot of the focus on NFL training camp has been on the Dallas Cowboys’ ongoing contract negotiations with Micah Parsons. When a deal is reached, it is expected to shatter the record for an edge rusher. However, those are not the only ongoing negotiations. DaRon Bland told Jon Machota of The Athletic that his agent has been negotiating an extension with Dallas. The 26-year-old cornerback earned first-team All-Pro honors after generating a league-high nine interceptions in 2023. While he was not as effective in coverage last season, he was returning from a stress fracture that kept him out for more than half the season. With Trevon Diggs facing an uncertain future in Dallas, extending Bland before he hits NFL free agency next year could be crucial.

Detroit Lions making no progress on Alex Anzalone extension
Detroit Lions linebacker Alex Anzalone expressed his disappointment this summer with the lack of progress in contract talks with the club. He joined the team in 2021 and his career has blossomed ever since. Wanting a long-term deal to finish his career in Detroit, Anzalone sat out at the start of training camp with a hamstring injury. While he returned over the weekend, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported there is still “no momentum” on a deal. Without an extension, Anzalone will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this coming season.

Kansas City Chiefs targeting Trent McDuffie extension before Week 1
The Kansas City Chiefs signed edge rusher George Karlaftis to a four-year extension right at the start of training camp. Up next are negotiations with All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie. According to Nate Taylor of ESPN, Kansas City is hopeful of having a contract extension signed before Week 1 (Friday, Sept. 5). Based on the going rate for cornerback contract extensions this offseason, McDuffie’s average annual value will likely land in the ballpark of $27 to $30 million, making him one of the three highest-paid players at his position.

Washington Commanders’ Terry McLaurin wants huge deal
Terry McLaurin did not report for the start of the Washington Commanders’ training camp due to a contract dispute that has persisted throughout most of the offseason. When he eventually reported, an ankle injury placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. Reports indicate that the two sides have made no progress in over a month, with a significant gap remaining at the negotiating table. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, it was reported that McLaurin wants considerably more than the $33 million average annual value (AAV) deal DK Metcalf landed this offseason. Heading into his age-30 season, an extension would pay McLaurin for production from age 31 through 34. For Washington, the risks of a long-term deal with a wide receiver nearing 30 and McLaurin’s high asking price appear to be key issues in the stalled contract talks.

Cleveland Browns expected to trade one of their quarterbacks
The Cleveland Browns four-man quarterback battle has been one of the biggest stories heading into NFL training camp. While the veterans and rookies are not necessarily all competing for the same job, there are two different battles underway. One factor that could shake things up later this summer, according to ESPN‘s Dan Graziano, is that Cleveland is “likely” to trade one of Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, or Shedeur Sanders. Of the four, Pickett seems the likeliest to be traded.

Trey Hendrickson, Cincinnati Bengals at a stalemate
All-Pro edge rusher Trey Hendrickson is holding out amid the Cincinnati Bengals training camp. The two sides have revisited contract talks repeatedly with only marginal progress. Now, amid Hendrickson’s vow to sit out regular-season games without a new deal, it appears Cincinnati has drawn its line in the sand. Jeremy Fowler reported that the Bengals have “relented as far as” they are willing to go in negotiations. Guaranteed money, particularly beyond the first year, is the biggest holdup. If neither side backs down, Hendrickson likely will not be on the field in Week 1.
