Rogelio Funes Mori scored twice as CF Monterrey downed Cruz Azul 4-1 on Thursday in Mexico City to win their CONCACAF Champions League semifinal series 5-1 on aggregate.
Monterrey will oppose fellow Liga MX side Club America in the final on Oct. 28 in Guadalupe, Mexico.
In the first semifinal series, America completed a 4-0 aggregate win over the Philadelphia Union with a 2-0 road win on Wednesday.
Monterrey, which won its home leg against Cruz Azul 1-0 on Aug. 11, jumped on top Thursday with a seventh-minute goal from Maximiliano Meza. Cruz Azul got back in contention thanks to an Orbelin Pineda goal in the 10th minute before Duvan Vergara (17th minute) and Funes Mori (24th minute) gave Monterrey breathing room with two quick tallies.
Funes Mori scored again in the 52nd minute.
The America-Monterrey winner will be the 16th consecutive Mexican squad to claim the CONCACAF Champions League title. America has the all-time record in the competition with seven crowns, most recently prevailing in 2015 and 2016. Monterrey is a four-time champion, including the 2019 title.
