New York Giants QB Tyrod Taylor remains hospitalized day after scary injury

October 29, 2023; East Rutherford, NJ, USA; New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor (2) is in some pain after a play in the first half.

The New York Giants quarterback situation took a turn for the worse in Week 8. With Daniel Jones already sidelined by injury, the Giants were forced to turn to third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito after Tyrod Taylor was taken to the hospital.

New York immediately ruled Taylor out for the remainder of the game with a rib injury. In his absence, DeVito stepped in and attempted just seven passes. The former Syracuse and Illinois quarter finished Sunday’s game with more yards lost on sacks taken (nine) than passing yards (-1).

Without their two veteran quarterbacks, head coach Brian Daboll put everything on Saquon Barkley’s shoulders. Barkley received a career-high 36 carries, marking only the third time in his career that he handled 30-plus attempts in a game.

Unfortunately for the Giants, it appears as if there’s no clarity on when Taylor can even return to the team. While most players who are taken to the hospital go there out of precaution and are released within hours, that’s not the case with Taylor.

Appearing on NFL Network’s The Insiders, talked about Taylor’s injury and highlighted the concern from the fact that the veteran quarterback remains hospitalized a day later.

“It seems Tyrod Taylor, who suffered a rib injury, is still in the hospital. Brian Daboll called it sore ribs, I imagine it’s EXTREMELY sore ribs. We’ll see what other damage and injuries are there. The fact that he’s still in the hospital, obviously, not a good sign.”

With Taylor still in the hospital, the Giants have to prepare as if the veteran quarterback won’t be available for Week 9. Already at 2-6, New York is set to face a Las Vegas Raiders team that is itself in desperation mode.

Fortunately, there is some good Giants news. Jones is expected to return to the practice field and is tentatively on track to start in Week 9.
