Tom Brady’s purchase of minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders remains on hold

It was roughly a year ago that reports first surfaced about legendary former NFL quarterback Tom Brady purchasing a minority stake in the Las Vegas Raiders from owner Mark Davis.

Even with Brady opting to remain fully retired, issues came up in this regard. It was back in October that certain powers around the NFL were not happy about the sweetheart deal Davis planned to give Brady.

“There should be an update on Tom Brady’s pursuit of a partial ownership of the Las Vegas Raiders. Owners, not thrilled about there being a discount offer. That deal needs a lot of work if it’s going to get done,” Jonathan Jones on Tom Brady’s deal to buy portion of the Raiders.

Fast forward several months, and we have more information on this. It’s not great. According to Mark Maske of The Washington Post, Brady’s bid to buy a stake in the Raiders will likely be on hold through next week’s annual NFL meetings.

Per The Washington post.

“The owners on the NFL’s finance committee previously raised issues related to economic aspects of the proposed deal. In addition, some owners have concerns about conflicts of interest arising from Brady holding an ownership stake in the Raiders while serving as an analyst on broadcasts of NFL games for Fox, according to one of the people with knowledge of the deliberations and two others familiar with the owners’ views.”

It’s been more than 10 months since negotiations started between Brady and the Raiders. They started after the seven-time Super Bowl champion finalized a purchase of a portion of the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces from the aforementioned Davis.

It makes sense that other NFL owners would be upset over a discount given how the finances are around the football world right now.

Brady is also set to join NFL broadcasts on Fox this coming season. That adds another layer to the entire situation with the quarterback expected to remain objective in his role.
