This AFC contender won’t rule out signing Pro Bowler Jadeveon Clowney

Three-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney was met with a dry market once free agency opened last month.

A lot of that had to do with his salary demands of $20-plus million, especially given the fact that Clowney was coming off an injury-plagued season with the Seattle Seahawks.

Still seen as an elite pass rusher, the 27-year-old Clowney should latch on with a team here soon. It will likely come on a short-term deal at much less than his previous asking price.

One team linked to the former No. 1 overall pick, the Tennessee Titans won’t rule out bringing Clowney back to the AFC South.

“We’ll see,” general manager Jon Robinson said Friday, via the Titans’ official website. “Like I said a couple of weeks ago, we’ve had some discussions there and we’ve had some dialogue back and forth. You never close the door on anything.”

Tennessee currently sits at $21.6 million under the cap after re-signing Ryan Tannehill on a lucrative deal and placing the franchise tag on reigning NFL rushing leader Derrick Henry. It has the cash to pay Clowney. It also has the need.

Acquired by Seattle from the Houston Texans prior to the start of the 2019 season, Clowney recorded just three sacks in 13 games with the Seahawks. That came on the heels of him combining for 59 quarterback hits and 24.5 sacks over the previous three seasons.
