Report: Derrick Henry signs $10.2 million franchise tender

Derrick Henry, Titans

The Tennessee Titans will officially have their dynamic duo back for the 2020 season after running back Derrick Henry reportedly signed his $10.2 million franchise tender on Thursday, per ESPN.

Both sides will now have until July 15 to agree to terms on a long-term extension and talks are reportedly ongoing. For the time being, though, Tennessee can be happy to have its All-Pro running back under contract for the 2020 season.

After racking up 1,059 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 2018, Henry took his game a step further this past season with 1.746 scrimmage yards and 18 total touchdowns.

The 26-year-old running back carried the Titans during the playoffs. He rumbled through the New England Patriots in the Wild Card Playoffs for 204 total yards, then helped upset the Baltimore Ravens the following week with a 195-yard performance.

The Titans signed quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a four-year extension on March 15, allowing the team to use the franchise tag on Henry. It was critical for the front office to keep their dynamic duo together after they led the team to the AFC Championship Game and now they’ve accomplished that.

The AFC South should be more competitive than ever this upcoming season. The Houston Texans remain a playoff contender and the Indianapolis Colts could emerge as the favorite after signing Philip Rivers.
