The Houston Texans activated defensive end J.J. Watt off injured reserve-designated to return on Tuesday, making one of the most dangerous AFC playoff teams even scarier.

Watt suffered a torn pectoral muscle in Week 8, an injury that many feared would end his season and potentially serve as another long-term setback to one of the NFL’s greatest defensive players this decade.

Fortunately, Watt started showing signs of progress early in his rehabilitation. Houston designated Watt for return off the IR on Dec. 24, clearing the way for the star’s potential return in the playoffs.

Even with Watt limited by the injury, his return will have a significant impact on Houston’s defense. He racked up an incredible 21 quarterback hits in eight games this season, creating havoc in the backfield and creating easier chances at sacks for his teammates.

As the Texans prepare for Saturday’s playoff clash against the Buffalo Bills, a potentially unstoppable offense is now complemented with a defense that can create turnovers and get after Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
