Despite having a quarterback on the hot seat who may have a very short leash, the Tennessee Titans have no plans of letting rookie QB Will Levis compete for the starting job during training camp.

After four seasons, Ryan Tannehill’s tenure with the Tennessee Titans is on very shaky ground. Back when they acquired him in 2019, it seemed like the organization was able to maximize his potential in ways the Miami Dolphins couldn’t as he earned Pro Bowl honors for the first time that year.

While Tannehill has been solid in the seasons since he has not been able to lead the Titans to become a legitimate title contender and has often come up small or was out with injuries in some of the franchise’s biggest games in that time. That is why there have been trade rumors all spring and talk of the organization being open to moving the 34-year-old this season.

However, despite the obvious signs that the Tennessee Titans want to move on from Tannehill, they are completely unwilling to force things with either backup Malik Willis or 2023 rookie QB Will Levis this summer.

On a Wednesday appearance on ESPN’s “NFL Live,” league insider Dianna Russini reported on what she has been told about the starting job directly from Tennessee Titans sources.

“Ryan Tannehill is the starter Week 1. That is what I’ve been told. This is his team, he is the guy. Drafting Will Levis is obviously, this team looking to the future knowing that Ryan Tannehill will be playing on an expiring contract. For now, it’s Ryan Tannehill’s team.”

While Tannehill may be the Week 1 starter, all indications are that he will not be given a lot of room to work out of any multi-week struggles if he stumbles during the season.
