The Tennessee Titans didn’t waste any time bringing in a new individual to lead their front office after a disappointing 2022 season.
Just over a week after finishing their season with a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Titans have a new general manager.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini was the first to report on Tuesday that Tennessee has hired San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Ran Carthon to be their next general manager.
This is a well deserved promotion for the former NFL running back and long-time personnel guy. Carthon, 41, was brought on by 49ers general manager John Lynch back in 2017 and has played a huge role in San Francisco returning to Super Bowl contention. He now joins a Titans organization that is going to face some difficult offseason decisions.

Ran Carthon as Tennessee Titans general manager
Carthon started his 49ers career as their director of pro personnel, helping the team build one of the most-dominant rosters in the NFL. With Carthon in the mix, San Francisco has added Pro Bowlers such as Fred Warner, Nick Bosa, Deebo Samuel, George Kittle and Talanoa Hufanga to the mix via the NFL Draft.
It has also done well in the pro department, including recent additions of star running back Christian McCaffrey and a shutdown cornerback in that of Charvarius Ward.
Coming off a 2022 season in which they lost seven consecutive games to close things out, the Tennessee Titans are in need of this type of success moving forward. The firing of former general manager Jon Robinson came after his ill-fated decision to trade star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2022 NFL Draft.
Meanwhile, there’s a ton of question marks at the quarterback position with Ryan Tannehill coming off a down 2022 season and unlikely to be back next season. Tennessee is also currently $24 million over the projected 2023 NFL salary cap.
