The St. Louis Blues contacted the NHL about “discrepancies” in COVID-19 test results Wednesday, hours before they were scheduled to face the Colorado Avalanche in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series.
“We have discovered discrepancies in Covid test results relating to multiple players,” general manager Doug Armstrong said in a statement. “We have been in touch with and are working with the League to address these discrepancies with additional testing and expect to have further information later this afternoon.
“The League will provide a further update when we have more information. Head Coach Craig Berube and our players will not be available to the media until after tonight’s game.”
The Blues had three players enter COVID-19 protocols in the days leading up to the start of the postseason. Defenseman Jake Walman tested positive for the virus despite being vaccinated and began quarantining last Wednesday. Two forwards, Nathan Walker and team points leader David Perron, were added to the COVID-19 list soon after.
The Blues were still able to play Game 1 on Monday, losing to the Avalanche 4-1 in Denver. Game 2 is still scheduled for Wednesday night, also in Denver, before the teams head to St. Louis for Games 3 and 4.
