One notable NFL Draft insider believes that with limited roster spots heading into 2024, the San Francisco 49ers could use some of the extra draft assets they have to move up in Round 1 of next week’s event.

It’s difficult to make a team that went to the Super Bowl a few months ago better, but that is the challenge in front of San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch this offseason. While the roster has many strengths — including defensive line and wide receiver — there are certainly areas they can sure up after coming up just short in Super Bowl LVIII.

While the team had one of the top offenses in our 2023 NFL offense rankings, the offensive line is an area that the organization needs to address in the short and long term. Finding a strong young tackle to play on the right side could be a top goal, but they also need to prepare for life after league legend Trent Williams — who is entering his 13th season in the league this year.

This year’s draft class at tackle is pretty good, however, a true impact talent may not be available for the 49ers when they are on the clock at 31 overall. That is why on Thursday, ESPN NFL Draft insider Jordan Reid suggested the organization may use the excess picks they have this year to move up and grab one of two players early in Round 1.

  • San Francisco 49ers NFL Draft picks in 2024: No. 31, No. 63, No. 94, No. 124, No. 132, No. 135, No. 176, No. 211, No. 215, No. 251

“Unsurprisingly, right tackle and cornerback are the two positions brought up most by scouts when talking about where the Niners could improve after their run to the Super Bowl,” Reid wrote. “And with 10 picks and few roster spots available, San Francisco might surprise and attempt a move up for an offensive tackle. Amarius Mims (Georgia Bulldogs) and Jordan Morgan (Arizona Wildcats) fit in Kyle Shanahan’s scheme on Day 1.”

Sportsnaut’s latest Mock Draft sees Mims and Morgan going 25 (Los Angeles Chargers) and 30 (Baltimore Ravens) in Round 1 on April 25.
