San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and the rest of his staff were at the team’s facility in San Francisco on Sunday as the Dallas Cowboys took on the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card Playoffs.

Shanahan and Co. were set to prepare for their unknown opponent in the NFC Divisional Playoffs this week. Certain things had to play out before they could get into planning for the game.

But if the Packers won, San Francisco knew that it would host the team at Levi’s Stadium. As the shocking first half played out with Green Bay taking a 27-0 led before a late touchdown by Dallas in the second quarter, Shanahan was already preparing to play the Packers.

The head coach told reporters on Tuesday that they really started game planning for Green Bay roughly midway through the second quarter.

No thoughts of a Cowboys comeback? It’s interesting in that Shanahan was a part of the Atlanta Falcons team that blew a 27-3 lead to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI back in February of 2017. Shanahan’s 49ers also blew a 10-point fourth quarter lead to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV. But we digress.

It’s clear that Shanahan did not mean to troll the Cowboys. He was simply asked a question about game planning without knowing your next opponent. But it did act the part of a troll job.

Dallas ended up losing by the score of 48-32. This comes after the team saw its season end at the hands oft he 49ers each of the past two years in the playoffs.

As for San Francisco, it is set to host Green Bay Saturday night at 8:15 PM ET on FOX. The team is currently 9.5-point favorites.
