After missing the playoffs for the first time since 1995-96, it appears that Gregg Popovich’s squad could be headed into full-scale rebuild mode. San Antonio Spurs rumors include the potential move of star players.
That could potentially include moving All-Stars LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan as a way to expedite said rebuild.
With the 2020 NBA Draft slated to get going in a week, we now have more information on this. It’s rather interesting stuff.

San Antonio Spurs rumors: Could LaMarcus Aldridge be traded?
On his recent podcast, Zach Lowe of ESPN reports that rumors are circulating around the NBA world. Said rumors include San Antonio sending Aldridge and the No. 11 overall pick to the Golden State Warriors for the second selection.
Lowe did express some skepticism about this being able to work, primarily because of the finances. Already over the cap, Golden State would have to include Andrew Wiggins or Draymond Green in a potential deal. Given the Spurs’ rebuilding nature, we highly doubt Green would be of interest.

As for Wiggins, would the Warriors move him for an aging Aldridge while sliding down nine spots in a weak draft? He could be of interest to San Antonio. Despite Wiggins’ high salary, he is still only 25 years old and averaged north of 22 points per game last season. It’s all about whether the Spurs see him as a franchise cornerstone. Most don’t.
San Antonio Spurs rumors: Potential LaMarcus Aldridge trades
If the Warriors rumor does not come to fruition, there’s still several possibilities for the Spurs to pursue in moving their All-Star forward.
A contending team in that of the Brooklyn Nets might show interest. Rumors have persisted that they are looking to trade for a third star behind Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. If so, Brooklyn could entice San Antonio with a combination of young players in that of Jarrett Allen, Spencer Dinwiddie and Caris LeVert.
Out west, the Dallas Mavericks would likely have interest in an Aldridge trade. However, they don’t have the type of young talent Brooklyn might offer up. A trade of this ilk would also be difficult after Dallas moved multiple first-round picks to the Knicks in the Kristaps Porzingis trade.

However, the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers could also look to make a play. Rumors continue from Southern California noting that the Lakers want to add a third scorer. Could they offer up Kyle Kuzma, Alex Caruso and a 2020 first-round pick as well as fillers for Aldridge? It’s possible.
One thing we do know. San Antonio Spurs rumors will continue to pop up as the NBA offseason continues. Should DeMar DeRozan opt into the option for next season (as expected), said rumors will take him into account, too.
Head coach Gregg Popovich is a realist. He knows that these Spurs in their current iteration are not playoff-caliber. Moving on from Aldridge and DeRozan would be the best way for San Antonio to expedite what would otherwise be a long-term rebuild project.
