Ryan Tannehill is an NFL-caliber quarterback, but the Miami Dolphins need to keep their options open. They’re set to bring in Baker Mayfield for a workout on Wednesday.
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported the Oklahoma product will be meeting with the team, which holds the No. 11 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
Every day of the pre-draft process is important for Mayfield, but this week is especially notable. He’s scheduled to visit the Cleveland Browns on Thursday. The Buffalo Bills previously met with Mayfield.
Since the New York Jets traded up to No. 3 in a mega-deal with the Indianapolis Colts, it’s possible that four quarterbacks are selected in the first five picks. The Denver Broncos, despite adding Case Keenum, could still be in the market for a rookie.
As a result, Miami would likely need to send additional draft capital to the Browns at No. 4 to have a chance at a prized quarterback. But if the Dolphins feel strongly enough about Mayfield, who is most likely to be available at that time, a trade could be worth the hefty price.
