According to the report, a vehicle believed to be registered or leased to Rice was involved in a crash on North Central Parkway at around 6:20 p.m. local time on Saturday, law enforcement officials said. A police call sheet obtained by The News confirmed that Rice is being sought in connection with the accident.

Rice, age 22, starred at Richland High School in North Richland Hills, Texas and emerged as a top wide receiver with the SMU Mustangs from 2019-2022. Following his final season at Southern Methodist University located in Dallas, Rice declared for the 2023 NFL Draft and was selected by Kansas City with the 55th overall pick.

The 6-foot-2 receiver got off to a slow start in his rookie season, drawing just 24 targets for 17 receptions and 173 receiving yards in his first five games. He saw increased snaps as he became more comfortable in the Chiefs’ offense, emerging as a starter midway through the season. From Weeks 7-16, Rice finished with 58 receiving yards, 693 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns, averaging nearly 70 yards per game.

According to The News, Rice did not currently appeal in any Dallas County jail records as of 12:40 AM local time on Sunday. Law enforcement officials did also not provide any information on if Rice is suspected of being involved, nor did they offer details on possible charges or if anyone was injured in the crash.

The Chiefs’ receiving corps was one of their biggest weaknesses last season, with Rice emerging as their breakout player. Kansas City signed Marquise “Hollywood” Brown in NFL free agency, but wide receiver is still viewed as one of the team’s biggest needs ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
