The top 2021 quarterback recruit in the nation is going to Austin. Quinn Ewers informed the Texas Longhorns that he plans to transfer after spending his freshman season with Ohio State.
Ewers made news by skipping his senior season of high school football and reclassifying for the Class of 2021 after dominating for the Texas powerhouse Southlake Carroll.
Quinn Ewers now becomes the second-highest recruit to ever play football for Texas, joining all-time program legend Vince Young in the process.
This is also a pretty big coup for embattled Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian, who posted a disastrous 5-7 record in his first season in Austin.
Part of Ewers’ decision is due to the success Sark has had helping college quarterbacks turning into pro prospects. That included working with both Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa as the offensive coordinator for the Alabama Crimson Tide before moving on to Austin. He also worked with fellow former NFLers Carson Palmer and Matt Cassel as the USC quarterbacks coach under Pete Carroll eons ago.
As for Quinn Ewers, there’s a darn good chance he will earn the Longhorns’ starting quarterback job after playing a mere few snaps during his freshman season with Ohio State. At the very least, he’ll compete with Casey Thompson for the starting job during the spring.
