Pro Bowl running back joins XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons

With 32 NFL teams carrying 53 members on their regular season rosters, even with a total of at least 1,696 players, there will always be a few athletes who get left out. Thankfully now, we have other leagues, such as the XFL and USFL, for football players who aren’t ready to give up on their dream.

The latest example of this is actually a player who many who follow the NFL closely will remember. In this case, it’s former Denver Broncos Pro Bowl running back Phillip Lindsay landing with the Seattle Sea Dragons XFL team.

Despite being undrafted out of Colorado in 2018, Lindsay managed to make a Pro Bowl in his rookie season. He recorded 1,037 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. The following year, Lindsay had yet another 1,000-yard season on the ground.

But that was the last time he’d start the majority of games for a team in the NFL. Lindsay wound up playing from 2018 to 2022, later joining the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, and Indianapolis Colts this past season. Yet, Lindsay couldn’t get back to the 4.8 yards per carry average he held with Denver and has yet to catch on elsewhere.

Until now of course, with the XFL’s season entering Week 7, now Lindsay should be able to get some more opportunities to show football scouts what he can do. Perhaps with a strong showing, Lindsay can get back to the NFL in due time. He’s still just 28 and has just 724 touches in his NFL career.

First things first, he’ll have to earn a role with the Sea Dragons, who are 5-2 after their Friday night win over the Arlington Renegades. Either way, Lindsay is getting another chance to play football.
