Russell Wilson’s brief time as a free agent has come to an end.

According to Adam Schefter, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed Wilson to a one-year contract for the NFL’s veteran minimum of $1.21 million. This immediately makes Wilson’s contract with the Steelers one of the NFL’s most team-friendly contracts ever signed in free agency.

Since he is signing for $1.21 million, this means the Broncos are being stuck with paying Wilson $37.8 million in 2024.

Wilson met with the Steelers for over six hours on Friday, where head coach Mike Tomlin and new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith were present.

Wilson confirmed the news on X, showing his excitement for joining the Steelers. It’s also worth noting, the Steelers will head to Denver for a game against the Broncos in 2024, giving Wilson a chance at revenge.

Russell Wilson was also open to joining Raiders and Patriots

According to Dianna Russini, had Russell Wilson not signed with the Steelers, he also would have been open to playing for the Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots. It is not known if the interest was mutual.

Instead, Wilson joins 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett as the only other quarterback on the Steelers’ roster. Ian Rapoport indicates the two QBs will battle for the starting role throughout training camp. Now that Wilson has been brought on board, Mason Rudolph, who’s set for free agency, is expected to find a new team this offseason.
