The New York Knicks executed a blockbuster trade for Mikal Bridges, but that was merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to NBA trades and rumors. Now, aside from Paul George’s situation, the focus turns to Kevin Durant’s future with the Phoenix Suns.

While the two situations are much different in that George has a chance to enter free agency if he declines his player option, Durant is locked in through the 2025-26 season. But that hasn’t prevented the rumor mill from focusing on the 14-time All-Star.

Meanwhile, despite Phoenix insider Duane Rankin’s report that the Suns “aren’t looking to trade Kevin Durant,” others suggest the front office has much different plans.

Specifically, ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith believes, internally, the Suns want nothing to do with Durant anymore, but externally, they continue to say all the right things.

“I am reporting: pay no attention to what Phoenix is saying, they want out of Kevin Durant right now.”

“Also, Houston doesn’t want Kevin Durant. Ime Udoka may want him, but organizationally, they know they are not there yet. Their plans are more long range and they would prefer a Devin Booker, who they know there’s a slim chance they’ll get.”

Durant has been in Phoenix for roughly a season and a half; he’s played 83 regular-season games with the franchise. Yet, less than two years after adding him via trade, the Suns may be ready to admit Durant isn’t the missing piece capable of delivering the first championship to Phoenix.
