The Philadelphia Eagles were quick to make their reported signing of former New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley official once the new league year opened up at 4 PM ET on Wednesday.

Philadelphia’s social media team took to X, announcing the three-year pact with the former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

This represents one of the biggest signing of NFL free agency in 2024. Not only does it take Barkley away from a bitter rival, but it also adds a dynamic dual-threat option to go with quarterback Jalen Hurts in the Eagles’ backfield.

The deal comes in at $37.75 million over three years with $25.5 million guaranteed at signing. Barkley receives $26 million in total guarantees, making him one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. His cap hit for the 2024 season is a reported $3.91 million.

Barkley now takes over as RB1 with the Eagles after D’Andre Swift signed with the Chicago Bears during the legal NFL free agent tampering period. As noted above, he’ll provide that balance with Hurts in Philadelphia’s backfield.

The No. 2 overall pick of New York out of Penn State in the 2018 NFL Draft, Barkley’s best season came as a rookie. He gained north of 2,000 total yards and 15 touchdowns.

While injuries have impacted the two-time Pro Bowler, he is coming off a 2023 season in which Barkley put up 1,242 total yards and 10 touchdowns.
