Throughout points of the season, the Los Angeles Clippers have looked like legitimate NBA Finals contenders. But not lately, as they’ve gone 13-13 since ending their four-game win streak in early February.

James Harden’s inconsistency, specifically his slump, hasn’t helped.

Harden, who averages 24.2 points in his career, is down to a new career-worst (since becoming a starter) 16.7 PPG. His numbers since the Clippers ended their aforementioned win streak are even worse, at 15.5 PPG, while shooting just 40.4% from the floor. His typically trademark three-point accuracy has been off too, where he’s shooting just 33.7% in that span.

That’s part of the game; some players have rough stretches of play. Even the best players are human, even if they rarely show signs.

But the bottom’s dropped out across the past two games, with Harden scoring six points apiece against the Charlotte Hornets and Sacramento Kings. It’s the fifth time he’s scored in single digits dating back to Feb. 23.

Paul George snaps back at reporters after being asked about James Harden’s slump

So when Paul George was asked about his All-Star teammate’s struggles, he was already well aware of the situation, but that didn’t mean he wanted anything to do with it.

“I’m not a coach,” George said while shaking his head. “I’m not the coach. Next question.”

Paul George when asked about James Harden’s slump

Indeed. PG13 is not Tyronn Lue, but what is he hinting at here? Is George suggesting Lue and the staff better figure out how to pull Harden out of his slump ASAP or is he just frustrated with seeing his teammate struggle?

It could also be a case of George simply minding his own business, knowing that whatever he says won’t help Harden make more buckets. Either way, it’s a fascinating response just weeks ahead of the NBA Playoffs.
