The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancelation of NFL minicamps, leaving many players to hold their own group workouts this summer. Now, following several outbreaks of the coronavirus, the NFL Players Association is advising players to end group workouts.

Following the cancellation of in-person minicamps, players from across the league organized workouts with teammates to prepare for the 2020 season. Among them, Tom Brady held a private training session with several of his new teammates.

Unfortunately, the NFL is now seeing players come out of these group workouts testing positive for the coronavirus. Most recently, an unidentified San Francisco 49ers player contracted the coronavirus after spending time with teammates in Nashville. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers just announced multiple players tested positive for the virus.

As a result of the outbreak, the NFL Players Association released a statement to its players, urging them not to engage in practices with their peers.

The announcement came as the NFLPA is negotiating with the NFL on creating safety protocols for the 2020 season. The NFL recently created strict social distancing guidelines for team facilities, but coaches are calling for adjustments to be made.

The number of coronavirus cases in the NFL is dramatically increasing by the day. Given we’re just a month away from training camp, things aren’t looking promising for the regular season to start on time.
