Report: San Francisco 49ers player becomes latest in NFL to test positive for COVID-19

San Francisco 49ers schedule, predictions

The NFL is still more than a month away from players reporting for training camp and the COVID-19 outbreak has already begun across the league.

Following a wave of positive coronavirus tests across the NFL this week, a San Francisco 49ers player became the latest to contract COVID-19.

At the same workout in Nashville that saw star receiver Deebo Samuel break his foot, one of his teammates has now tested positive for COVID-19 following the group workout session.

Many of San Francisco’s top players came together in Nashville to prepare for the 2020 NFL season and to make up for missed minicamp practices that were canceled by the pandemic. Unfortunately for the 49ers, this has become the latest example of why the NFL forced teams to close their facilities to players.

The unidentified player becomes just the latest in the NFL to test positive for COVID-19. He joins Denver Broncos stars Kareem Jackson and Von Miller, along with Los Angeles Rams center Brian Allen and multiple Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans players on a growing list of players to test positive.

There is still plenty of time for these players to get healthy and be cleared for when training camp begins near the end of July. However, given how easily this virus spreads and the number of athletes who have tested positive, it seems inevitable that an outbreak will hit during the NFL season.
