The Philadelphia Eagles took a clear step back this season after winning the Super Bowl the previous year. While the Eagles still reached the postseason, they couldn’t find the same success, getting eliminated in the Wild Card round.

Now the Eagles have to go back to the drawing board and find a way to take a big step forward again. They may even be hit with a trade request in the process.

Recently, The Athletic‘s Zach Berman predicted that A.J. Brown would “seek a trade” from the Eagles this offseason. If so, he expects “strong compensation” headed back to Philadelphia, which gave up a first-round pick (18th overall) plus a third-round selection for Brown during the 2022 NFL Draft.

“My guess is Brown will seek a trade, and the Eagles will find strong compensation. I don’t think this is a good scenario for the Eagles, and it would behoove them to try to remedy this situation and convince Brown that Philadelphia is the best place for him to play football. The Eagles badly need Brown, and Brown is on the trajectory to be one of the iconic players in franchise history. He’s on record stating he wants to be the best receiver in the NFL, and the Eagles have not done enough to facilitate that for him.

They’ll need to show Brown that they have an offense and a quarterback that can put him in that light, similar to what you saw in 2022 and 2023. But it might be difficult to put toothpaste back in this tube, and there’s too much smoke here for me to answer this question differently. So my answer now is no, although there’s always time to mend fences. There have been multiple high-profile players over the years who appeared set to go elsewhere before staying with their club.”

Brown was a big part of the Eagles winning Super Bowl LIX, and he’s recorded 1,000 or more receiving yards in all four of his seasons in Philadelphia. As noted, the 28-year-old would likely fetch some strong offers from other teams looking to boost their passing attack this offseason.

Though, there’s no guarantee the Eagles are ready to trade Brown, even after some controversial moments on the sidelines and social media. However, when Howie Roseman was asked about a potential trade involving Brown, he didn’t shoot down the deal entirely, noting that he’s a talented player instead.
