The NFL free agency tampering window officially opens on Monday, and the Minnesota Vikings are expected to be active, with over $60 million to spend. Yet, they’re getting some of their work done early, by agreeing to a two-year, $20 million contract extension with Aaron Jones, shoring up their starting backfield for 2025.
Yet, the Vikings still have several other holes to fill next. Let’s look at some other moves Minnesota could make this offseason.
Re-sign Daniel Jones

With Sam Darnold likely to move on, the Vikings will need another capable quarterback, whether it’s to serve as a bridge before J.J. McCarthy is ready or just to have a strong backup. Why not try another reclamation project in Daniel Jones? He’s already familiar with Kevin O’Connell’s system after joining the team late last season and the former No. 6 overall pick will still be just 28 when the season kicks off.

Re-sign Byron Murphy

After becoming a first-time Pro Bowler in 2024, thanks to recording a career-high six interceptions, Murphy has earned himself a big raise. The Vikings would be wise to make sure it comes from them instead of another team since they don’t have another cornerback ready to fill in.

Sign Darius Slayton

The Vikings could use a more reliable No. 3 receiver who’s capable of being a true threat. Any capable pass-catcher should be reaching out to the Vikings this offseason, hoping to land a role in a high-powered Kevin O’Connell offense. Slayton clocked a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and he’s since had four seasons with over 700 yards. Keep in mind, that’s come without a consistent quarterback or many other weapons to take attention away.

Sign defensive tackle Milton Williams

Someone who should be one of the Vikings’ top free agent targets is Eagles Super Bowl hero Milton Williams. He’s a high-end interior pass-rusher who may be able to become a true star with an increased role in Brian Flores’ defense.

Sign guard Will Fries

Another area that Minnesota must address this offseason is the offensive interior. Their Wild Card playoff loss, where Sam Darnold suffered nine sacks, should be enough evidence to convince Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah to make a significant offensive line investment. Fries ranked fourth-best among all guards graded by Pro Football Focus last season, representing a significant guard upgrade in Minnesota.
